Rôtie Cellars
Sean’s journey to Rotie Cellars took a different path than what one might expect from a textbook on how to become a prestigious winemaker. His college education was in geology, and he spent a decade exploring the realm of oil and gas before venturing into the world of wine.
In 2004, Sean embarked on his winemaking journey by working his first harvest at Waters Winery. He immersed himself in various roles within the profession, honing his skills and knowledge, until he took the bold step of establishing his own venture in 2007. Despite his unconventional background, it turned out to be a perfect fit. Sean’s expertise in geology lends him a deep understanding of soils, a quality that greatly influences his winemaking prowess.
For Sean, wine is a personal passion, and he firmly believes that there is no right or wrong way to create or savor it. He crafts wines that he genuinely loves to drink—French-style Rhone blends. His philosophical approach to winemaking is rooted in the traditions of the Old World, embracing a natural and unadulterated process. His touch can be felt in every stage of winemaking, as he believes that the true magic of great wine primarily occurs in the vineyard. His role is to harmoniously coexist with nature’s handiwork, allowing it to shine.
Born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, Sean is not only a devoted winemaker but also a loving husband and father to three children. He delights in the pleasures of excellent food, refreshing beer, exceptional wine, and a robust cup of black coffee—preferably sourced from Walla Walla Roastery.
