Zerba Cellars

Cecil Zerba’s roots are deeply intertwined with the Walla Walla Valley, as he was both born and raised there. The Zerba family’s presence in the valley dates back to the 1850s, establishing a longstanding connection to the region. Marilyn, on the other hand, was born in Redmond, Oregon, but moved to the Walla Walla Valley at a young age of nine. In September 1981, Cecil and Marilyn joined their lives in marriage. At the time, Cecil worked as an electrician, while Marilyn pursued a career as a registered nurse.

Not long after their wedding, Cecil and Marilyn embarked on a new venture by establishing Zerba Gardens, a local nursery dedicated to cultivating high-quality plants and produce. Cecil explains that the nursery was initially started to keep their children occupied during the summer months. However, over the course of the following two decades, Zerba Gardens flourished into one of the most reputable and prosperous nurseries in the entire valley, earning the trust and admiration of the local community.

In 2001, Cecil and Marilyn decided to bid farewell to the nursery business and ventured into the world of winemaking. Thus, Winesap Vineyards was born as their new endeavor.
